چکیده

Some international standards have been developed that are very likely to make a major impact on CVE (Collaborative Virtual Environment) technology: the Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) (IEEE Standard 1278.1)[8] and the High Level Architecture (HLA) (IEEE Standard 1516) [1]. Deriving from military-purpose simulations, DIS and HLA, however, have limitations on building large-scale general-purpose CVE applications. For instance, HLA object-attribute based ownership management only allows joint manipulation in a constraint-based solution. The purpose of this research effort is to realize joint manipulation management in CVE. This paper begins with a discussion of interaction requests and interaction model and proceeds to describe three generic approaches for joint manipulation management: Constraint-based, Synchronized and Non Synchronized.

Collaborative haptic environments, multimodal interaction and communication, hand over task, experiment. Object manipulation is an important activity in everyday life that can also be performed in virtual environments. In the study presented here the extent to which haptic force feedback improves performance when a person hands over a virtual object to another is investigated. Joint manipulatio...

Workflow Model for Collaborative 3D Interaction - Application to Co-located Manipulation

Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVEs) are complex environments where multiple users share the same objects to act together. The complexity of these environments is related to the interaction of the user group with shared items. In a shared world, several constraints appear, including those related to coordination and communication of users and user interaction management in virtual world to...

Managing Network Troubles while Interacting within Collaborative Virtual Environments

We are interested in real time collaborative interactions within Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVE). This domain relies on the low latency offered by high speed networks. Participants of networked collaborative virtual environments can suffer from misunderstanding weird behavior of some objects of the virtual universe, especially when low level network troubles occur during a collaborativ...

Evaluation of a Reconfigurable Tangible Device for Collaborative Manipulation of Objects in Virtual Reality

In this paper we introduce an evaluation of a Reconfigurable Tangible Device (RTD) for collaborative manipulation of objects in virtual environments. The considered RTD, called RTD-3, has a triangular shape that naturally provides three points of manipulation. The shape of the tangible triangle can be reconfigured at any time as its branches can be shrunk or stretched by users at will. Thanks t...

Virtual Life Network: a Body-Centered Networked Virtual Environment

In order to feel the sense of presence in the Virtual Environment, it is important for the participants to become a part of this environment and interact with it through natural behaviors. This is even more emphasized in Networked Collaborative Virtual Environments where the participants need to see and interact with each other. We present the Virtual Life Network (VLNET), a joint research effo...
